Alps Gilsonite

Alps Gilsonite

Description:

Gilsonite, also known as uintaite or natural asphalt, is a naturally occurring, solid hydrocarbon resin. It is a shiny, black, brittle material with a high softening point and excellent adhesive properties. Gilsonite is mined primarily in the Uinta Basin in northeastern Utah, USA. It is soluble in aromatic and aliphatic solvents, as well as petroleum asphalt, making it a versatile material for various industrial applications.

Uses:

– Asphalt Modification: Used to enhance the performance of asphalt binders in road construction, improving durability and resistance to deformation.

– Ink and Coatings: Added to inks, paints, and coatings to improve gloss, hardness, and adhesion properties.

– Oil and Gas Drilling: Utilized as an additive in drilling fluids to stabilize boreholes and reduce fluid loss.

– Foundry Sands: Used as a binder in foundry sands for metal casting to improve mold strength and surface finish.

– Adhesives and Sealants: Incorporated into adhesives and sealants to enhance bonding strength and flexibility.

Packing & Shipping:

– Gilsonite is typically packed in 25 kg multi-wall paper bags, 500-1000 kg jumbo bags, or bulk shipments.

– It can also be crushed or powdered for specific applications.

– Proper safety measures are followed during transportation to ensure compliance with international shipping regulations.

– Storage should be in a cool, dry place to maintain its quality and performance.
